OWING MY OWN BUSINESS
WORKING WITH CHILDREN
CREATING A LARGER RETIREMENT NEST
I’ve always had the desire to own my own business and did so a few years ago. I really cannot see myself working for someone until I retire or die. One of my visions is to have a tax preparation business. I’ve been working with accountants who work with medium sized firms and have prepared some taxes for small businesses. Also, I’ve been working with accountants who work independently and hopefully I will be able to join them when I’m ready.
Another vision is to work with children to increase their reading skills. There are certain school districts that inadequately funded and usually these schools are attended by children of color. I would like to give back to the community and help these children in the area of reading. Hopefully, this is possible. I have a few friends that are educators and see that they are working tirelessly to help children of color succeed. I really want to be a part of that and intend to pursue this. I will have more time for this after graduating.
I would also like to have a nice nest egg. Although the economy is rough right now, I intend to continue to save money at the same rate as I do now, for as long as I’m able. As we emerge from this crisis, I intend to invest in the market and hopefully pad my nest egg.

Tanya,
I really like your plans. They are so well rounded. You know what you want in terms of career, your family, and your community life. Your wish to help underprivileged children is very impressive. When I participated in one of the similar programs (it was financial planning for high school children) I realized that while helping with the subject in question, our team was subconsciously communicating to the kids values and believes that they never new before. In a word, we were helping them to acquire or change their vision - something that they would hardly be able to learn at home.
Also, I am absolutely fascinated by the fact that you are not afraid to be a free lancer. However, I know that if you market yourself well and win a steady clientele, you will be the queen of your own schedule and have plenty of time for travel and family. : )
Hey I was really surprised that someone wrote about a retirement plan. At our age we really don't think about these things but it is o important to our lives. Everyone is so focused on getting where they want to be that they forget there will be a life after accomplishing their visions. So I think its really great that you are setting up your future not only for your career but comfort after it as well.
I agree with you totally in terms of working for someone. I can't imagine doing that for the rest of my life...
I like that your taking charge of your life early. It seems to me that your on the right track! Good Luck!
my uncle have away tell me to get my degree and everything else and go straight on open my own account firm. but i really feel that would be ready yet right after i get out of college. i think it will take me 2 to 3 years for see more about the accounting environment, before i can open my own account firm. but if i know i am ready i will definitely open my own firm. but of course i will also need money. i guess saving up money is the first step to achieve my goal.
